Hideous Creature (template)D&D 3e (3.0/3.5) Rulesby ArynHideous CreatureA hideous creature is a mutant, monstrous version of the normal beast. More or less, it makes them very ugly, and mean spirited to boot. Physical signs of hideousness are glowing eyes, drooling, long faces, and too much squinting. Sample Hideous CreatureThis displacer moose is absolutely hideous. With glowing red eyes and purple fur, and the very disinterested facial expression it bears sends a quake of terror through all but the most stalwart. Hideous Displacer Moose Hideous displacer moose are always solitary, having been chased out of the territories of other displacer moose. I mean, come on, they're hideous! CombatHideous displacer moose are suicidally aggressive, and never retreat. This is probably due to their mean disposition, and lack of intelligence. Sensitive Displacement (Su): The hideous displacer moose is sheathed in a light bending glamor similar to that of the displacer beast. This displacement effect is less reliable however, and any time the displacer moose takes sonic damage, the displacement effect fails briefly for 1d4 rounds. At all other times, the displacer moose has a 50% mischance to hit it, because it is difficult to see. Only a true seeing or similar spell can pierce this displacement effect, as see invisibility has no effect. Resistance to Ranged Attacks (Su): Hideous displacer moose have a +2 resistance bonus to saves against magical ranged attacks (excluding ranged touch attacks) that specifically target the hideous displacer moose. Skills: Hideous displacer moose have a +4 racial bonus to Survival checks, and a +8 racial bonus to Hide so long as their Sensitive Displacement is in effect. Frightful Presence (Su): A hideous displacer moose is so hideous that all opponents within 15 ft. must make a Will save (DC 17) or become shaken. Noxious Fumes (Sp): A hideous displacer moose may cast stinking cloud as the spell, once per day, with a caster level of 10. Creating a Hideous CreatureHideous creatures are more or less, mutants. Nobody knows what foul circumstances prompt their creation – but who cares? The extra experience points should make up for it. This template can be added to anything. Even things that aren't normally statted out. Cheese? Yes please. Size and Type: Size remains unchanged. If humanoid, type changes to monstrous humanoid. Do not recalculate Hit Dice, saves, or attack bonus. Speed: Hideous creatures gain a +10 bonus to their land speed only. Hideously fast, don't you think? Armor Class: The natural armor of the base creature improves by +2 (and if it didn't have any, it gains a natural armor of 2). Attacks and Damage: All natural attacks improve by one step. If it doesn't have any, it gains a bite attack dependent on size (this is mostly due to the fact that the creature gets one heck of a wicked overbite).
Special Attacks: A hideous creature gains the following special attack: Special Abilities: A hideous creature gains the following special abilities: Abilities: Strength +2, Dexterity +2, Constitution +2, Intelligence -2 (minimum of 3 for humanoids), Charisma -4 Skills: A hideous creature gains a +2 bonus on Listen and Spot checks. Challenge Rating: +2 Alignment: Always evil (any) Level Adjustment: +3 Fan RatingsThis item has been published here with permission from the author(s) and may not be reproduced without permission.
