Living TouchstoneD&D 3e (3.0/3.5) Rulesby Tauren Kai-JereDimernesti ClericThe Dimernesti's intense spiritual connection to the primal forces of Krynn's oceans manifests itself in a unique fashion amongst the sea elf clergy. Whereas the Dargonesti wear the traditional medallions of faith of the land-bound races often shoal elf clerics are gifted with a magical animal companion by their deity that acts as a living touchstone between the priest and his god. These unique creatures allow the sea elven clerics to channel divine energy in any number of miraculous ways. Although these creatures were plentiful amongst both sea elf cultures prior to the Cataclysm they have only recently begun appearing to the Dimernesti in the Age of Mortals. Living TouchstoneThe Dimernesti's living touchstone acts as a focal point for the cleric's spells and ability to turn or rebuke undead. Level: 1st Replaces: If you choose this class feature you give up one clerical domain (including the granted power). Benefit: The cleric gains the animal companion druid class ability in its place. The touchstone animal companion is identical to the druidic one except that it may act as a divine focus for the cleric's spells and ability to turn or rebuke undead as long as the animal remains within 100 ft. of the cleric. The living touchstone is the cleric's medallion of faith. Should the cleric release the living touchstone animal companion from service or should the creature be killed the cleric will not be able to cast spells with a divine focus component until he performs a ceremony requiring 24 hours of uninterrupted prayer to summon a new one. Should the cleric lose favor with his deity the living touchstone will leave until the cleric atones (see the atonement spell description on p. 201 of the Player's Handbook). Living touchstones are commonly associated with the followers of Abbuku (Habbakuk), Kisla (Chislev), and Zeboim. However, other gods have been known to grant a living touchstone to a Dimernesti cleric on rare occasion. The living touchstone's type changes to magical beast.
