The Surplice of Paladine

D&D 3e (3.0/3.5) Rules

Entry in the 2007 Holy Artifacts Challenge

It is a piece of cloth that is worn around the shoulders and neck of a cleric. It has a calming aura that radiates from it when worn by someone of pure heart and intentions. Some of the documented powers it has are as follows:
- It gives the cleric three additional spell slot per level of user within the gods spheres of influence
- It has immunity to fear and mind control which can been distributed to other with a laying of hands (exactly how many people this can be used upon has never be fully discovered)
- It also has the ability to turn undead at epic levels (whether or not it would work on beloved is unknown)
- It is also said to allow the wearer to commune directly with Paladine once every three months.

There are probably some lesser powers but knowledge of those has been lost to history

Short history of the Surplice

They say that the first true human priest of Paladine was given this item to help him or her to establish the church. The most famous user of the item was Symeon the third those it is said that he was only seen wearing it twice. After the death of Symeon the following Kingpriests tried to use it but it didn't work for them. This is probably why Beldinas put it into the hall.

The powers may or may not work today. I'm thinking that if another god wants to they could use it to channel through but at this point I don't know.
