Entry in the 2007 Holy Artifacts Challenge

This platinum orb is the size of a fist and glows with a soft, comforting light. The orb is meant to represent the sun, for one of Paladine's divine domains was the metaphorical aspect of the sun as an object of hope. The orb was created during the reign of Beldinas Pilofiro, the final Kingpriest, by a Cleric of Paladine who still retained his powers. The Cleric's name is lost to history, but the artifacts powers are well known to those who have studied it. The artifact must be placed in sunlight for five days, one day for each color of goodly dragons. On the sixth day the artifact begins to glow even brighter than it normally does and the light can fill up a large room. The light makes people feel hope and lifts their spirits. After being in the orb's presence for only a short time people will feel like they can make a difference in the world and that all hope is not lost. For the reign of Beldinas could be seen as an era of despair. Those who have been in the orb's light often will go out and try and help those in need, be it with small favors or even large ones. One person who felt the orb's light said that he imagined that was what being in Paladine's presence would feel like. The orb was originally used in a Temple to Paladine by the Cleric to encourage people to go out and help others, and thus lift their spirits in a dark time. The orb does not compel people to do good acts, for Paladine would not want to force people to be good, it merely gives people the hope and resolve to make the world a better place. This artifact was suppressed by the Kingpriest because those who had felt its light began to help those in need, even those who the Istaran church saw as "evil", including the people who worshipped the gods of Twilight, or even those who worshipped the gods of Light, but not in the way prescribed by the Istaran church. Thus, this artifact came to be in the Solio Febalas, the Hall of Sacrilege.
