Khariod's Earth Image

D&D 3e (3.0/3.5) Rules

by Clive Squire

Khariod's Earth Image

Illusion (Shadow)
Level: Sor/Wiz 6
Components: V, S, F
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Medium (100ft +10ft/level)
Target: 1 Khariod golem
Duration: 10 minutes/level
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No

You draw stuff from the plane of shadow to infuse a construct in front of you, you allow part of your essence to merge with it, making the construct an extension of yourself.

You can control a Khariod golem, allowing it to follow simple commands that you give it. The earth image activates the materials that you used in the creation of the golem, allowing it to mimic your appearance. The golem looks exactly like you, complete with similar weapons and armour.

For the duration of the spell you are able to see and hear through the golem as if you were actually present. You cannot speak through the golem, nor can you use any special quality of any item that the golem mimics wearing. During your turn you can switch from using the golem's "senses" to using your own senses or back again as a free action. While you are using the golem's senses, your body is considered to be blinded and deafened.

While you are not seeing through the golem, the golem continues to act as ordered to in a previous round when you did have control. The golem can be commanded to perform simple actions, such as nodding his head, turning a page of a book, walking to a specific place and sitting down.

You cannot cast any spells through the golem or use any magic item that the golem is wearing or carrying. Although it is possible for you to attack or defend yourself as the golem, it is difficult and awkward.

The golem suffers a –2 penalty to all attack rolls, damage rolls, saving throws, checks and skill checks (with the exception of Spot and Listen) while you are controlling the golem.

If you lose control of the golem before the duration expires, either due to your body suffering damage, the golem going beyond the spell's range, the use of a targeted dispel magic or similar magic used on you or the golem or some other like effect, the golem automatically becomes hostile to you and seeks to attack you, ignoring all other targets, until the spell's duration has expired.

Once the spell's duration has finished, the golem returns to its normal orders (if any) or becomes inert, ready for new orders.

Focus: A Khariod golem (see below).
