Decanter of Endless KenderD&D 3e (3.0/3.5) Rulesby SephZeroDECANTER OF ENDLESS KENDER [Minor Artifact]A mysterious decanter holds the power to capture or release those of the kender race, depending on the whim of its bearer. Lore: A DC 20 bardic knowledge or Knowledge (local) check reveals the account of an adventurer who originally stumbled upon this artifact. Uncertain of the qualities of the decanter, the adventurer removed the stopper to investigate its contents. Much to his surprise a kender materialized out of the decanter and quickly launched into a series of questions about the matters of all things. The sudden appearance of a kender certainly took the adventurer by surprise. Much to the horror of the adventurer as long as the stopper was removed, more kender would continue to emerge. The adventurer only narrowly managed to seal the decanter and hide it far away to protect the world from such a scourge. This tale is largely considered a "kender tale" appropriately enough and can only be believed after consuming a large quantity of dwarven spirits first. A DC 30 bardic knowledge or Knowledge (arcana) check recalls a much different legend tied to the decanter. Long ago, during the early Age of Might there lived a potent Black Robe whose name has been lost to history. What was known was that this Black Robe had little patience for fools and even less for kender. Considering the mere slaying of kender beneath one of his skills, he instead turned to magical means to provide a means of ridding the world of kender. He crafted a decanter by which he would seal away all kender into a specially designed demi-plane prison. It is unsure what the ultimate fate of the Black Robe was, but his creation has survived even to the Age of Mortals. The kender of Ansalon still occasionally speak in wonder of the mysterious decanter and what wonderful sights might await those on the other end. Description: A beautifully crafted decanter likely to fetch a good price from collectors of art, it bears magical runes along its surface that speak of terrible portents to those foolish to remove the stopper. Activation: The decanter can only be activated by one of two methods, either by using the command words or removing the stopper by force, which requires a DC 20 Strength check. Effect: When the command words "Kender Begone" are spoken, the decanter can force all kender in a 30-foot cone from the bearer to make a DC 20 Will save. Failure results in the kender being sucked into the decanter and deposited into the demi-plane within it. This effect only works on true and afflicted kenders; half-kenders are not affected. When the command words "Kenders Unveiled" is spoken, the decanter can transport its bearer along with any number of individuals touching it into the demi-plane. The decanter remains on Ansalon in the location from which it was left, but the bearer can choose to leave the demi-plane at any time by repeating the command word from the entry point arrived in the demi-plane. The speaker and any individuals touching him are automatically transported to the area surrounding the decanter. If the stopper is removed by force without uttering the proper command words, the decanter instantly releases a random kender NPC. Every minute that follows there is a 50% chance that an additional kender will appear until the decanter is once again sealed. Released kender are under no compulsion to obey the wishes of the bearer of the decanter, though it is possible they might attach themselves to said bearer for a period of time.
