Classes in the Fifth Age

D&D 3e (3.0/3.5) Rules

by André La Roche

In the godless Fifth Age, there are many different changes that the classes on Ansalon have gone through, some classes are radically different than before, others don't even exist at all, while some continue to exist just the same as before. On a similar note, there are some classes entirely new to the 5th Age. Those however, can be found in their own separate areas. All classes below that have access to either the feat School of Sorcery or Sphere of Mysticism for free have a caster level equal to half of their class level, and as such have a relevant casting bonus (See the 5th Age Magic section for details). Thus, a 4th level paladin would cast as a 2nd level mystic, and have a casting bonus of +1.

Bard

The bard of the 5th Age starts out with feat School of Sorcery for free.

Cleric

The cleric class does not exist in the 5th Age.

Knight of Solamnia

For Knights of Solamnia in the 5th Age, there are only 2 key changes: due to being nearly wiped out after the Chaos War, the knights broadened their spectrum and lessened their strict requirements on recruiting. Thus, they will accept someone of any good alignment into their ranks. Furthermore, replace all references of "cleric" with "mystic" when calculating a Knight's advancement.

Knight of Takhisis

For Knights of Takhisis in the 5th Age, there are only 2 key changes: due to being nearly wiped out after the Chaos War, the knights broadened their spectrum and lessened their strict requirements on recruiting. Thus, they will accept someone of any evil alignment into their ranks. Furthermore, replace all references of "cleric" with "mystic", and all references of "wizard" with "primordial sorcerer" when calculating a Knight's advancement.

Monk

The monk, as per the 4th Age Classes section of this page, loses her clerical casting abilities. However, she gains the Feat Sphere of Mysticism with the use of Alteration for free, and at the beginning of each day may expend 25 points to fuel the supernatural abilities unique to monks. This ability to simulate the previous supernatural abilities of monks is unique to the monk class alone, as even the most skilled mystics are unfamiliar with the ways of a monk if they lack sufficient training. Many monks in the 5th Age also multiclass with the Mystic class to gain the use of Mentalism, using it to fully explore the teachings of their departed god Majere.

Paladin

The paladin has experienced changes similar to the alterations that the monk class has undergone. The paladin starts out with the feat Sphere of Mysticism with the use of Healing for free. Furthermore, a paladin does not need to have levels in the Mystic class to gain the feat Sphere of Mysticism as long as the Sphere Selected is Necromancy, Spiritualism, or Sensitivity. Furthermore, a paladin may only use Necromancy or Spiritualism to attempt to turn the undead as per the Player's Handbook. This ability consumes 10 spell points per use, and is unique to the Paladin. Due to the limited use of Spiritualism and Necromancy that a paladin has, he is able to delve into more complicated aspects of the spheres, coming close to bridging the gap between the two. Thus, a paladin with Spiritualism, but lacks Necromancy, may turn incorporeal undead as per usual, but turns corporeal undead at 5 levels lower. The reverse is true for a paladin with Necromancy but not Spiritualism. Should a paladin have both, he turns all types of undead as though one level higher.

Sorcerer

The sorcerer class does not exist in the 5th Age.

Wizard

The wizard class does not exist in the 5th Age.
