Istarian Field PlateD&D 3e (3.0/3.5) Rulesby DamienIstarian Field Plate (+8 AC)Another testament to the flamboyance of armour in Istar during the time of the Kingpriest is Istarian field plate. As opposed to the standard design of field plate armour, which is simply plates of steel joined together to cover the entire body with a flat, steel surface; Istarian field plate has sweeping, angled plates around the elbows, shoulders, neck, shins, thighs and forearms. These sloped, angled plates are more adapted to turning aside slashing attacks, whereas standard field plate will take the full force of the blow even if there is no penetration, Istarian field plate can cause a bladed weapon to slide right off. This design grants not only the standard field plate armour bonuses and penalties, but also a +3 deflection bonus to slashing weapons and arrows.
