Battles and Burningsby NaiComposer's Description:The opening of this song and the first section tell of a small skirmish, in which nothing much exciting happens. When the lower brass come in one at a time, it is the end of the battle, and the knights are searching the field, gathering the bodies. The third section with the repeated higher part is the funeral of the many who died in the battle, in which the knights throw the bodies of both enemies and friends onto the funeral pyre. Suddenly, an enemy army is sighted upon the horizon, and the alarm is called. Knights run to and fro gathering weapons and armor and getting ready for the next battle. The two armies come within arrow range and arrows are exchanged, but they kill only a few people. The two armies charge and crash into each other. Thousands are killed, on both sides, and both armies nearly call the retreat, but neither wants to. Finally, the enemy retreats, leaving the defending knights alone, to perform yet another funeral.
