Kit & Soth

by Mark Boehnlein

Composer's Description:

I debated on releasing this piece as a Kit and Soth piece because I've had so many requests for a piece on Lord Soth alone. He is deserving of his very own theme however, a lot of work went into this piece and Kit and Soth definitely share some of the story line together. So as this may not be the only piece on Lord Soth, I still hope it effectively portrays the two characters.

This piece attempts to be slightly chaotic and very dark to bring out the evil nature in both characters. Most of the instruments play fairly low at the beginning to set the dark mood. Only the piano and low strings start off the piece. This song does not portray singular events throughout the books like the "Golden General" and "Sturm's Fall" did, but it just creates a mood that is fitting to the characters, like the Tasselhoff and "Knights of Solamnia" songs did. So just clear your mind, bring up the images of Kitiara Uth-Matar and Lord Loren Soth and let the music paint the action in your imagination.

However, late in the song, you will hear the part of the song in "Sturm's Fall" where Kit kills Sturm atop the battlements of the High Clerist Tower. This part of the song will be tipped off by a timpani roll. This part also brings out the power of the two characters. Again, imagine Kit flying away in slow motion on Sky after impaling Sturm, or Lord Soth melting into the shadows, his red eyes glowing. Some subtle voices were put in to represent, but by no means take the place of, the banshees of Lord Soth's nights.

All in all, I hope this is considered a good addition to the growing Dragonlance Suite on Dragonlance.com and that it meets the expectations of its listeners.
