DLA Module Series 9275 Dragon Dawn 9285 Dragon Knight 9294 Dragon's Rest These three modules formed an epic DRAGONLANCE storyline set in Taladas, the previously unknown second continent of Krynn. The first module, *Dragon Dawn*, began with an investigation into the murder of some Othlorx - the dragons of Taladas. The second module, *Dragon Knight*, revealed that the evil god Erestem (Takhisis) was the mysterious master of the dragon killers. The final instalment, *Dragon's Rest*, featured the exploration of a strange island in the Ethereal Plane and concluded with a climactic battle between the forces of good and the evil minions of Erestem. The DLA series were the only adventures published for the Taladas setting. Unfortunately, they did not take full advantage of the unique cultures and lands of the setting, instead presenting a rather derivative "invasion from other planes of existence" plotline. The first module of the series is perhaps the most interesting, and could be developed into a more satisfying storyline than that presented in DLA 2 and 3. The events of this module series were assumed to take place during the War of the Lance, and were unnecessarily similar to that more successful story. Dragon Dawn, by Deborah Christian The story takes place in the Conquered Lands province of the Minotaur League, wherethe discovery of three dead copper dragon hatchlings angered a local human noble of the Minotaur League. Baron Leonid Althen of the Rathwyck Marches ordered his chief forester to recruit a party of accomplished adventurers to bring those who had slain the hatchling copper dragons to justice. A few days later, the forester located a suitable group of able men and women and promptly brought them to Rathwyck for the Baron's inspection. The Baron offered them the job. The adventurers accepted the offer, and began the search. Aided by Derry Althen (the enthusiastic but inexperienced daughter of the Baron), Tavin Longspear (a rugged and courageous Dragon Knight), and Gabus (the loyal copper dragon companion of Tavin), the adventurers picked up the trail of the dragon killers. Eventually they tracked them down to a secluded area of the Marak Valleys known as the Pillars of the Moon. The killers were led by a powerful priestess from Thenol named Anishta. Her allies included a Hurdu (lizardman) warrior named Tekolo, a foul-mouthed dwarf named Pollip, an ogre shaman named Kohver, and an insolent elf mage named Dagobert. The dragon killers had no intention of allowing the adventurers to interfere with their activities and vowed to destroy them. In the ensuing battle, the dragon killers were defeated by the adventurers in a bloody showdown. the captured Anishta blurted out a confession. "We were hired to kill dragons," she said. "Somebody rich and mighty and far away wants those dragons dead. I think it's to stop the dragons getting together at a gathering Amanthus set for the autumn equinox. You've heard ofAmanthus, I'm sure - the gold dragon that the good Othlorx cater to in the Steamwall." Tavin confirmed both the existence of Amanthus and the call for a secret conclave. Gabus insisted that Amanthus be warned about the plot to kill the dragons and summoned a team of copper dragons to carry the adventurers to Amanthus' lair in the Steamwall. Amanthus, an ancient gold dragon, had decided to summon the good Othlorx to a conclave in hopes of persuading them to help defend against the evil dragons. But in recent weeks, Amanthus had become increasingly concerned that the forces of evil had learned of his plan to rally the dragons and were plotting to interfere. Amanthus listened closely to the report from the adventurers. It seemed to confirm his worst fears. Impressed by their skills and courage in defeated Anishta and her aides, Amanthus requested their further help, this time to discover the identity and motive of the mysterious master of the dragon killers. Dragon Knight, by Rick Swan A few weeks later, Tavin summoned the adventurers to a secret meeting in a remote area near the small village of Trilon. he explained that he and some fellow dragon knights had intercepted a band of mercenaries on their way to a meeting of Gazele Ella, one of Taladas' most notorious criminals. Ella had been assigned an important job by the master of the dragon hunters. Ordinarily, Ella worked alone, but this job was so tough that she had decided to recruit some help. The mercenaries captured by Tavin and his friends were among the would-be recruits. The adventurers met Ella at the rendezvous and, posing as mercenaries, impressed her enough to be hired as dragon hunters for an expedition into the desolate Steamwall Mountains. The adventurers planned to help Ella complete her assignment, hoping to be present when she reported to her secret master. Ella's spiritual advisor, a goblin shaman named Grott, also accompanied them. With the successful completion of their mission (which thankfully did not require the adventurers to kill any good dragons), Ella and Grott took the adventurers to Kor Island to collect their reward. There, the adventurers met a draconian named Chorahh and an evil gnome cleric named Drishurocol, representatives of the master of the dragon killers. while Ella and Grott negotiated with this pair, the adventurers explored the island citadel and discovered the wounded Tavin being held as prisoner. Tavin told the adventurers that shortly after he left them in Trilon, word reached him that the dragon killings were being directed from Kor Island. Four dragon knights and copper Othlorx staged a surprise assault; however, of the entire force, Tavin was the only survivor. After the battle, Chorahh and Drishurocol tried to discover what the prisoner knew of their plans, but Tavin told them nothing. Tavin overheard snatches of conversation between Chorahh and Drishurocol that led him to believe that the plot against the Othlorx might be more serious than previously assumed. The master of the dragon hunters is none other than Erestem herself, tavin found out. He told the adventurers that Erestem was planning to recruit an army of otherworldly creatures to invade Taladas and destroy the Othlorx leaders, such as Amanthus. Tavin told the adventurers about a portal in the fortress that Chorahh and Drishurocol used to keep in touch with Erestem. "Once the portal is opened," Tavin told them, "you can enter the Ethereal Plane and find out if Erestem is preparing to strike. Return immediately with the information. If there are no signs of a strike force, we will continue to fight the dragon hunters on Taladas. But if Erestem is readying her minions, then we mobilise our forces and strike now." Following their discussion with Tavin, the adventurers confronted Chorahh and Drishurocol, only to discover that Chorahh had learned of the adventurers' charade. "I am not as easily fooled as Ella and Grott. We have been tracking you for some time, and we know who you are." Chorahh revealed that he had imprisoned Ella and grott in another plane of existence as punishment for their foolishness. "Ella and Grott may prove useful in the future. We can always replace them if necessary. You, on the other hand, have no value. Your lives are over." Chorahh and Drishurocol attacked the adventurers, only to be defeated. The adventurers activated Chorahh's portal and stepped through, arriving on a barren plateau floating in the bleakness of the Ethereal Plane. Shortly after their arrival, the dventurers noticed an island floating several miles away. Hundreds of bizarre creatures roamed aimlessly across its barren expanse, marshalled by a five-headed dragon that floated above the island and demanded tribute. The adventurers realised that Erestem was mobilising an army of monsters for an assault on the Othlorx of Taladas. Meanwhile, a contingent of dragon knights led by Derry Althen had arrived at Kor Island to rescue Tavin. Searching the citadel, Derry accidentally triggered a defense mechanism that destroyed the portal. From their bleak plateau, the adventurers watched helplessly as the portal disappeared, trapping them in the Ethereal mists. Dragon's Rest, by Rick Swan The adventurers explored a demi-planar region called Eborium (also known as the Isle of Flames). They met Ahxa, a member of a bizarre race called the gk'lol-lok that lived on the island. Most importantly, they met an avatar of the evil god Sargonnas (disguised as an avatar of the neutral god Udras the Alchemist) and were recruited to gather mysterious "cindergems" for his plot against Erestem. Sargonnas has longed served as the consort of Erestem, but their relationship has been a rocky one. When Sargonnas' desire to help in the invasion of Taladas was dismissed out of hand by Erestem, Sargonnas decided to force the goddess to accept him as an equal. Sargonnas forced a number of demonic beings to create a powerful set of magical jewels called the cindergems, but before he could use their power, Erestem confronted him and dispersed the cindergems into various eras of Taladas' past and future. When the adventurers became trapped on the Ethereal Plane, sargonnas arranged for their rescue. He intended to trick them into retrieving the cindergems for him, using the chronolilies, mystical flowers of Eborium, to create portals to the time and place where each cindergem was hidden. The adventurers travelled to disparate regions of Taladas and retrieved the all but one of the cindergems, giving them to Udras/Sargonnas. They also continued to explore Eborium, and met a group of gnomes who had discovered the demiplane. Eventually, Udras/Sargonnas was able to recreate the weapon that he hoped would bend Erestem to his will. Udras/Sargonnas summoned some of the good Othlorx dragons rom Taladas to serve as mounts for the adventurers in a battle against Erestem, and used the combined cindergems to grant each of the adventurers a unique power. The adventurers and their dragon allies were successful in routing the lieutenants of Erestem's estraplanar forces. However, Erestem manifested at the moment of apparent victory, and used the missing red cindergem to reveal Udras/Sargonnas' true identity and destroy the demiplane of Eborium. The adventurers escaped to Taladas through the power of a chronolily, where they learned that the forces of Erestem were demoralised by their leaders' defeat, and thus the invasion was failed.
