Chambers of AstinusGoblins and Their KinThe goblinoid races are generally foul humanoids who enjoy waylaying travellers and adventurers who traverse the land. They are not common in many areas, excepting the goblin nation of Throt, and the province of Sikk'et Hul. Otherwise, you will find goblins in small pockets, however they are often hunted down by good-aligned forces. BugbearBugbears are vicious large brutes who are often found leading regular goblins around, or serving hobgoblins. They are an offshoot of the goblin race, and generally the product of a goblin with too much ogre blood in it. They stand at seven feet tall and are heavy set and covered in hair. They have fairly well-developed fighting and hunting skills, and can overpower most other humanoid creatures. Bugbears will push around and occasionally kill goblins for pleasure, but they highly respect hobgoblins and will always defer to them, particularly in a military unit. Bugbears are known to dwell in caves and mountainous regions, and have a love of treasure. They hoard treasure and hide it away, and will protect their cache to the death. GoblinGoblins are small ugly creatures that enjoy picking on those weaker than them, but turn into cowardly grovellers when faced by a more powerful foe. Goblins are without morals and will happily murder a stronger foe if they believe they can get away with it. Goblins are fairly short-sighted, and are usually only given basic assignments in both day-to-day life, and also in the battlefield. In the early ages of Krynn, goblins lived in the province of Sikk'et Hul and also in the nation of Throt. Throt has always been a strong nation, since it sits between Solamnia and Neraka. The caravan route that sits between the two other nations, has always suppled a steady stream of income/victims for the goblin nation. Also both the Solamnics and the followers of Takhisis have always treatied with the nation of Throt to keep it as a neutral ground between the Nerakans and the Solamnics. In the Age of Mortals, goblins are more widespread, since many of them have served the Dragon Overlords and the goblin tribes have spread across most parts of Ansalon like a small plague. HobgoblinsHobgoblins are the most dangerous of all the goblin races. They are the most intelligent of all the types of goblins and usually leads goblin armies. All other types of goblins defer to them, and the hobs are tricky warriors who use cunning and strategy in battle. Hobgoblins are often abusive of goblins, whom they consider lesser kin, however they can also use flattery and praise when needed, to get what they want. Like most goblin races, hobgoblins are chiefly concerned with their own personal gain. Hobgoblins are mainly vicious warriors, however occasionally some hobgoblins are shamans who specialise in mentalism to control their foes'/rivals' minds. KoboldsKobolds are cowardly diminutive creatures who are poor fighters, and only enter willingly when they overwhelm the enemy in numbers. They stand at three feet tall, have long tails and horned heads. Their skin is scaly, however they have whiskers and patches of fur on their bodies. For what they lack in brawn, they make up for with brains. They are cunning foes and adept at setting traps. Kobolds have an intense hatred of both magic and gnomes, and will attack any mages or gnomes on sight. Their origins are believed to be of an offshoot of goblins, altered by the Graygem and turned into kobolds. SligsWhere some goblins were altered by the Graygem and turned into the first kobolds, some hobgolins were also altered by the Graygem and turned into the first sligs. Sligs are man-sized lizardmen, are fearsome fighters and ready to attack most other humanoids on sight. They are naturally resistant to fire and can spit a contact poison at their foes. They occasionally will deal with the other goblinoid races, and very rarely with non-goblin races, but are also just as likely to attack goblins or non-goblins for pleasure. Sligs can live almost anywhere, although they tend to prefer bogs and swamps. The only thing a slig respects is power. If a creature is more powerful than them, then they may pause and choose to parley, rather than fight. GnollWhilst not technically related to the goblins, gnolls can often be found working with goblinoid races as allies. Gnolls are essentially humanoid creatures with the head of a dog. They are large creatures who are fearsome in battle, and adept at using either their claws or hand weapons. Gnolls tend to attack in packs and fight when they outnumber their enemy. They prefer to dwell in swamps and ruins, and follow the strongest one among them. Gnolls are essentially scavengers and will allow anything more powerful than them, to pass through their territory. Gnolls are not in large numbers across Ansalon, they are only strong in numbers around the New Swamp and the Vingaard River. There are also several packs known to reside in the Plains of Dust. KoalinthKoalinth are, far all intents and purposes, underwater hobgoblins. They are known to inhabit sea caves and coral banks, and can swim in fresh or salt water. Their bodies were altered by the Graygem, and they have developed gills, webbed fingers and toes. They have light green skin and are slimmer than the average surface hobgoblin. Koalinth wield spears and speak their own language. They hate sea elves and will attack them when encountered. They generally operate in tribes and have small communities spread across the watery regions of Ansalon and Watermere.
